Turkana is situated in the Salinas de San Pedro Regional Park, a magnificent enclave, unique in its biodiversity, with flamingos living there all year round in one of the most interesting ecosystems to be found at the Levante coast. Turkana is in the fortunate position to have two seas nearby, the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor. Mar Menor and the Murcia Mediterranean coastline were declared ZEPIM (Important and Specially Protected Mediterranean Area).
This belt of the Murcia coastline, easily to be reached from the San Pedro del Pinatar marina, stretches from Torre de la Horadada to Cabo de Palos. In this small coastal area you’ll find plenty of fauna and flora as well as each and every kind of Mediterranean geological formation, that offer divers many surprising areas of sand, plains, rock, steep coasts, caves, crevices, inlets, marine meadows, etc.
